Osaamistavoitteet
Student can describe the main components, dynamics and matter contents of the Milky Way Galaxy. The student can describe the relation between stars in our Galaxy and the universe of Galaxies. The course builds and furthers the arguments made in the Stellar Structure and Evolution course, and connects stellar evolution, stellar atmospheres and other subjects to the broad Galaxies and Cosmology course. The student should be able, at the end of the course, to understand the broad problem of Galactic archaeology and "near field cosmology" and apply this knowledge to current research.

Galactic disk, bulge and halo. Galactic center. Stellar populations. Stellar/Galactic dynamics. Interstellar medium. Globular clusters. The Local Group. Observational and theoretical avenues.
