Learning outcomes

After completing the course, a student has gained a comprehensive understanding on the economic foundations and the business environment of the several key economies in Wider Europe, such as Germany, Russia, Ukraine, Turkey and the United Kingdom, and their main business cultural features and business etiquette. Through an independent course work, a student learns how to conduct a company analysis on major corporations doing business in Wider Europe. Several visitors from the business community and the state administration deepen the student’s knowledge how to do business in the region.

Content

The EU together with its neighbours account for around 20-25% of the global economy and the global trade. The EU regulation, the Brexit and the EU’s economic cooperation with its neighbours shape the future business in Wider Europe. The course gives an overview of the economic foundations, the foreign economic relations and the business environment of the key economies in Wider Europe. Representatives of the European governments and several companies present their views and experiences on doing business in Wider Europe. In addition to lectures, the course contains an analytical case study (a course work) on some major international corporation doing business in the region.

Study methods

Written exam, exercises and participation in classroom work.

Course unit methods

Intensive course: lectures 16h (Liuhto + guest lecturers). The course is organised on period III. Note! Will not be lectured on the Spring term 2024.

Assessment scale

0-5

Assessment criteria

The final grade of the course is based on the exam (40%), the course work (40%) and active participation in the lectures (20%). A student is obliged to attend at least 50% of the lectures.
