The programme is organized around the main research areas of the two departments in the Faculty of Education: the Department of Education and the Department of Teacher Education. The language of tuition is English.\r\n\r\nThe EdLearn programme tries to realize its aim by addressing education both from micro and macro level perspectives throughout the basic studies, the electives and the master thesis, but also by integrating 21st century skills in the areas learning skills (e.g. critical thinking, metacognition life-long learning), life skills (e.g. communication, collaboration and cultural awareness) and literacy skills (e.g. information and scientific literacy) in the curriculum. These skills are addressed in content, study arrangements and in the realization of the Master thesis. The double degree option is called the Finnish-German Master Programme in Education and it leads to the following degrees: Master of Arts in Education from the University of Turku, and Master of Arts Erziehungswissenschaft (Educational Science) from the University of Regensburg, Germany. The studies take two years to complete (120 ECTS credits). A student who has been admitted to the double degree option studies the 2nd semester at the University of Regensburg, Institute of Education. Among the research areas at the University of Regensburg are for instance vocational education and continuing education, professional learning and development. The language of tuition is English.\r\n\r\nAll students with Finnish educational background (suomalainen koulusivistys) must demonstrate, either as studies included in their Bachelor's or Master's degree or in another way, to have acquired proficiency in Finnish and Swedish as required of personnel in bilingual government agencies under Section 6, Subsection 1 of the Act on the Knowledge of Languages Required of Personnel in Public Bodies (424/2003). Excellent skills in the language of schooling (koulusivistyskieli) are demonstrated in the written maturity test of the Bachelor’s or Master’s thesis. Skills in the second language are demonstrated by completing language courses in written and oral skills, 5 ECTS in total.
