In this programme, the language of instruction is English. Studies are completed based on the currently valid curriculum. In case the student has completed a part of the course in accordance with the curriculum valid in the previous academic year, the student has the right to complete the course based on requirements defined in the previous curriculum by the end of August. After this, the requirements for completing the course are determined in the new curriculum. Possible prerequisites are mentioned in the study guide of each curriculum.\r\n\r\nBiomedical Imaging is jointly organized by the University of Turku and Åbo Akademi University. The Biomedical Imaging students receive at the beginning of their studies an automatic study right at the other hosting university to those courses that are listed in the curriculum. When completing studies in Åbo Akademi University, the students follow ÅAU’s instructions: https://abofi.sharepoint.com/sites/intra-en-study/SitePages/Exams.asp\r\n \r\n**Student guidance and personal study plan** \r\nTeacher tutor together with other academic staff and the education coordinator of the study programme provide study guidance. Students compile a personal study plan in the Peppi system and students are personally responsible for updating and following their Personal Stydy Plan (PSP) throughout their studies.\r\n \r\n**Exams** \r\nIf the course is completed with an examination or a corresponding method, it has to be organised at least three times with the same requirements. The first examination is arranged immediately after the course ends, the latter two examinations have to be organised within one year of the first examination. The dates of the examinations must be announced in the syllabus or at the beginning of the course at the latest. \r\n \r\n**Internship** \r\nThe master's degree can include a (research) internship(s) related to the field of study as an optional course(s) of 5-20 credits in total.\r\n\r\n**Thesis** \r\nFor the Master of Science degree, students prepare a master's thesis as a part of the mandatory major studies. The thesis is based on an experimental research project corresponding to 5-6 months of full-time work. In the master's thesis, students must demonstrate their ability for scientific thinking, mastery of the necessary research methods, familiarity with the topic of the thesis and the ability to use scientific language. A person with at least a master’s degree can act as a supervisor. \r\n\r\nA Master's thesis must have at least two examiners. The responsible professor will appoint the examiners of which the other can be the supervisor of the thesis. The head of the Department of Biomedicine decides on the approval of the Master's thesis on the basis of the opinion of the examiners.\r\n \r\nThe master's thesis is written in English. More detailed practical instructions regarding the theses are given separately.\r\n \r\n**Evaluating studies** \r\nStudy modules are graded on a scale of excellent, very good, good, satisfactory and sufficient on a scale of 5–1 based on the grade point average weighted by the graded courses’ extent unless otherwise specified in the study guide.\r\n\r\n**Accreditation of studies completed elsewhere** \r\nStudies completed at another university, higher education institution or other institution can be either accepted to be included into the degree studies or to substitute studies that are part of the current curriculum. Education coordinator assesses applications for inclusion and the teacher responsible for the course evaluates applications to substitute a distinct course, respectively. As a general rule, the Center for Language and Communication Studies decides on substituting language studies. Studies completed elsewhere must fulfill the learning outcomes set for the degree and its parts. A course with overlapping content and level with a course in the compulsory major subject studies can't be included in elective studies.\r\n\r\nAccording to the decision of the Center for Language and Communication Studies, language studies completed in other institutions are valid for 10 years. If the studies are older than 10 years, the application for recognition of prior learning is not processed. The decision concerns students who have started their studies at UTU on 1 August 2024 or later.\r\n \r\n**Enrollment and progress in studies** \r\nThe studies are carried out in scheduled order for each semester. If a student completes studies in a deviating order, they must contact the education coordinator to prepare an updated personal study plan for their studies. \r\n \r\nThe completed compulsory studies of the degree are valid for 10 years. The vice dean responsible for faculty education decides on updating outdated studies. The vice dean can request a statement of the education program before making a decision.\r\n\r\nCourse unit parts for courses taken on or after 1 August 2023 will expire if the student does not complete the course in the three years following the semester in which it was taken. However, the application of the expiry rule must not lead to situations which are unreasonable for the student, e.g. in view of the reason for the absence of the student. The student should contact the teacher responsible for the course in good time if the expiry of the course unit part would lead to an unreasonable situation for the student.","valueFi":"The University of Turku Regulation on Studies: https://intranet.utu.fi/en/sites/regulation-on-studies.\r\n\r\n**Completion of studies** \r\nThe Master of Science (MSc) Master’s degree can be completed in two years of full-time studies.
