{"id":null,"code":"EDUK5318","name":{"valueFi":"Master's Thesis","valueEn":"Master's Thesis","valueSv":"Master's Thesis"},"credits":30.0,"minCredits":30,"maxCredits":30,"tags":[],"createdAt":1790534319782,"contentList":[{"title":{"valueFi":"Osaamistavoitteet","valueEn":"Learning outcomes","valueSv":""},"content":{"valueFi":"","valueEn":"","valueSv":""}},{"title":{"valueFi":"Sisältö","valueEn":"Content","valueSv":""},"content":{"valueFi":"","valueEn":"Students are required to write a Thesis as part of their Master Degree.\r\n\r\nThe thesis process starts in the first semester of the studies and runs throughout the whole duration of the programme.\r\n\r\nA typical thesis process involves orientation on a potential thesis topic, searching and reading related literature, revising and/or refining the topic, formulating general aim(s) and/or research question(s), identifying the kind of data needed in connection to the aim(s) and research question(s), data collection, analyses and interpretation and in the end turn this into a coherent written report that can be submitted for final evaluation.\r\n\r\nThe division of the whole process into different sub-courses is to give some indication on the flow of the thesis process, but individual processes differ (e.g. orientation on the research, research design).\r\n\r\nWhile these individual differences make that students may follow different timelines, there is one important intermediate checkpoint:\r\n\r\n               - Before formally starting data collection for the thesis a finalized Thesis Plan needs to be approved by the thesis supervisor. \r\n\r\nThe Thesis Plan should provide a framework for the Thesis and specify the data and data collection methods. In the case of research involving humans the consent form and privacy statement should be included as an appendix to the plan.\r\n\r\nWhile the thesis courses aim to work towards submitting a Master Thesis for evaluation, the aim of the courses is broader. Throughout the process students are expected to develop knowledge and skills that, while important for the thesis work, are valuable beyond the Thesis and Degree.\r\n\r\nAll thesis related courses for instance aim to develop students’ general scientific literacy, critical thinking skills, problem solving skills, argumentation skills, writing skills, or formulated more generally: equip them with the skills and attitude to incorporate research informed planning and decision making in their future career.\r\n\r\nBesides these general aims, the thesis process also provides students with one or more specialization areas. Throughout the process students continuously develop their knowledge and expertise in the area of their thesis (e.g. through reviewing scientific literature and analyzing and interpreting data). Inevitably, this will be reflected in the Master Thesis only to a certain extent, but it will remain part of the students’ knowledge and expertise that can be drawn upon in the future.\r\n\r\nMaturity test: The need to do a maturity test only applies to students with Finnish educational background (suomalainen koulusivistys) who haven't done a written maturity test as part of their bachelor's degree.
